The Sopwith F.1 Camel is one of the most recognisable fighter aircraft of World War I.

This COBI model depicts the aircraft flown by American flying ace George Augustus Vaughn Jr., one of the most successful U.S. pilots of the Great War. The set is based on the specific Sopwith Camel currently on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force, making it a unique offering for collectors and aviation history enthusiasts. The model features high-quality prints that faithfully reproduce the aircraft's appearance from the Great War era.

The distinctive insignia of the 17th Aero Squadron, painted on both sides of the fuselage behind the cockpit. The squadron adopted this emblem after being integrated into the RAF while serving in France and Belgium. Two Vickers machine guns highlight the firepower that earned the Sopwith F.1 Camel its reputation as one of the most formidable fighters of its time. A rotating propeller, movable wheels with rubber tyres and a cockpit with space for a figure ensure realism and appeal for both play and display.

George Augustus Vaughn Jr. was one of the most distinguished American aces of World War I. In 1918, he served first in the British RAF and subsequently in the United States Air Service’s 17th Aero Squadron, which was equipped with Sopwith Camel aircraft.

During the war, he achieved 13 aerial victories and received the highest military honours from both the United States and Great Britain.
